The business operates within a highly specialised niche market, supplying flooring solutions for sports facilities, velodromes, luxury residential projects, and premium commercial developments throughout the UK. The recruitment project presented several challenges. All meetings would be conducted remotely, Knight Temple was competing against larger UK recruitment agencies, and the client believed it already knew most of the available talent within the sector. A shortlist of preferred candidates had already been identified, and there was understandable concern about whether a wider search would uncover anyone stronger. ## The Knight Temple approach Before beginning the search, Knight Temple invested significant time researching the market, competitors, and available talent pool. Although the client provided a list of preferred candidates, we encouraged them to broaden the search to ensure no suitable individuals were overlooked. Our view was simple: the best candidate might not necessarily be the most obvious candidate. We agreed to approach the client's shortlist while simultaneously conducting a wider search across the market. Instead, the wider search uncovered a candidate who proved to be an outstanding fit for both the role and the organisation. More than eight years later, that individual remains in post. The success of the appointment established a long-term recruitment partnership that continues today. Since the original assignment, Knight Temple has successfully supported the business with several specialist sales and technical services appointments across its UK operation.
